Upgrade your kitchen with these high-tech gadgets

Up until last year I was still using mismatched pots and pans I bought the summer before college. That was a long time ago – and it showed. Nearly a decade of use had left them a bit grimy regardless of how much elbow grease I used to polish them. Alas, they still worked, and that was good enough for me.

Now that I have a set of cookware that doesn’t bare the squiggly fossils of instant noodles, my life has changed – in the kitchen, at least. Cooking is easier, cleanup is a breeze, and my food even tastes better. I wish I had invested in some quality kitchen gadgets years ago.

Whether your decrepit collection of pots and pans is falling apart or you’ve become more serious about cooking and are looking for some new gadgets to play with, it can be daunting to outfit an entire kitchen. To make the process a bit easier, we’ve rounded up some of the top kitchen gadgets every aspiring chef should have in her repertoire.

Rancilio Silvia Version 3 Espresso Machine

Skipping the Starbucks drive-thru and making delicious espresso in the comfort of you own home is a luxury everyone should experience. This top-of-the-line, semi-automatic espresso machine is built to last, and is one of the best machines available at its price point.

 Omega 8006 Nutrition Center Juicer

This high-tech kitchen gadget doesn’t make our favorite juices as quickly as other models – but that’s why we love it. By going at a slower speed, this juicer squeezes fruits and veggies instead of grinding them, preserving nutrients and healthy enzymes that are otherwise lost in the juicing process.

Breville BFP800XL Sous Chef Food Processor, 16-Cup

Cut your prep time in half. This model from Breville comes with a set of eight discs and blades, giving you multiple slice, dice, and cut options. Not having to deal with teary eyes when cutting onions is worth the investment!

MAC 8-Inch Professional Hollow Edge Chef’s Knife

A high-quality knife makes food preparation faster, more efficient, and much more enjoyable. Start with a versatile 8-inch forged chef’s knife and grow your collection from there. This one, made in Japan, is durable and lightweight. Though the price tag may incite sticker shock at first glance, the first time you cut a tomato, you’ll be so glad you brought it home with you anyway.

DeMeyere Apollo Stainless Steel Cookware Set

Stainless steel cookware has long been a popular choice for its versatility (they’re safe in the oven up to 500 degrees) and even distribution of heat. Plus, it’s dishwasher safe! Spring for this set from and you’ll be sautéing veggies, cooking eggs, and browning burgers to perfection in no time.

 Progressive International Over-the-Sink Cutting Board

You use a cutting board for nearly every meal that doesn’t involve a microwave or a soup can, so buying a reliable (and dishwasher safe) one is worth every penny. This one from fits over your sink so you can save precious counter space for other tasks. We’re particularly enamored with the removable collapsible colander.
